The
MeatBeat were a renegade splinter group of the original BN Crew. They
were never founded as such more began to grow like a fungus from the stagnating
remains of the golden era BN Crew.
All of the MeatBeat were in some way affiliated
with original BN Crew members and shared many of the same circle of friends,
the most obvious link between the original crew and the MeatBeat was Ceb.
The
purpose of the MeatBeat is still unclear, they held council in a house
in Dublin's Grizzle Avenizzle very near to the original BN HQ, this council
was frequent and more often than not resulted in some after hours chaos
much to the dismay of virtually everyone on the North Side of Dublin and
even some BN Crew members.
At
the forefront of the war against Dublin were The Meanologue and Ceb often
times egged on by other MeatBeat members, the pair were a scourge on the
city and it wasn't long before their renegade ways inspired similar acts
from virtually all of their fellow MeatBeat cohorts.
For some unexplained reason the target of
their aggression was usually those ridiculous round bus stop time tables
and after their discovery of Buckfast the actual bus stops themselves
became victims of the rampage, nothing was safe. Legend has it that other
fatalities included two cars, Meanologue's head, Q-Ball's model plane
to name but a few.

As
the years passed the MeatBeat grew more and more unreasonable and were
clearly a danger to themselves and others, this resulted in many of their
friends distancing themselves from the actions of the now out of control
splinter group.
The writing was very clearly on the wall,
a heavy toll was taken within the group by substance and alcohol abuse
and within three years of their beginning the groups days were numbered.
Due
to their lifestyles many of the group were now unemployed/unemployable
and their mental health was very clearly suffering too. Never knowing
when to call it a day the group continued to party hard, rampage harder
and crash even harder. The toll of the constant town trips, binges, concerts,
house-parties and chaos were beginning to show as the crew began to fragment.
By
2005 the group had all but disbanded, some had moved away from Dublin,
some even managed to settle down, some got jobs, some got therapy and
some still get pretty wasted today.
Asides the constant partying all of the
group will happily agree that some of the best days of their lives were
during the MeatBeat era, some members of the group to this day continue
to regale empty rooms with their tales of excess and euphoria, in hindsight
most of the group will use their own memories of those days as cautionary
tales.
As
chaotic as the era was the MeatBeat in their short existence did contribute
toward the BN Crew's musical legacy. In a brief period between drunk and
hungover a musical element of the MeatBeat emerged. These were The Meanologue
and Ceb.
The recordings both took place in Meanologue's
Barracks (Waterford) in 2001,the first of these tracks was 'Fight', a
rather rocky, sample-heavy upbeat contribution to the 'Where Did It All
Go Wrong' album. The second and final of the MeatBeat tracks, 'Nuclear
Winter' was also featured on the BN Crew album, it was a much more laid
back breakbeat sound which was also heavily based around sample.
For
reasons only known to themselves these two tracks originally appeared
in mono but the album versions were in stereo, some say this was because
the pair couldn't afford a decent stereo cable, those people would be
correct. The tracks were composed using a PSX/1 and the Music 2000 program,
a program which Ceb still uses to this day.
In
a fleeting comment some years back Meanologue reportedly said to Ceb "We
need to get some new MeatBeat shit done, we're going to need a lot of
new explosions". This being a reference to the over-usage of explosion
sound effects used in MeatBeat material. So far there are no solid plans
for MeatBeat to produce any more music but maybe someday.

Ceb - Possibly the most volatile member of the original BN Crew
line-up it was only a matter of time until this lifestyle needed an outlet,
that outlet would be the MeatBeat. Until the closing days of the era Ceb
remained a central point in The MeatBeat sessions.
The Meanologue - The second founding member of MeatBeat The Meanologue
was prone to violent outbursts and a master of tactical psychology when
combined they resulted in some hilarious situations (except for the victim/s).
Q-Ball - Living in what became the MeatBeat HQ Q-Ball was involuntarily
sucked into the void of madness that was the MeatBeat lifestyle. His dark
sadistic humour and impassioned outbursts made him right at home within
the MeatBeat.
Moosehead - Moosehead was the younger brother of both Meanologue
and Q-Ball and joined the madness a little after the group was founded.
This didn't stop him from becoming a centre point of much of the insanity
of the era.
The Cutter - The Cutter was one of the quieter of the group but
this didn't exclude him from the ridiculous behaviour. Often times he
was mortified and astounded by the behaviour of his cohorts but this wouldn't
stop him from joining in with measured outbursts of hilarity.
The Unit - Unit was possibly the tipping point of The MeatBeat's
unbalanced lifestyle. When he partied he did it on a larger scale than
many people had ever imagined at great cost to his health, sanity and
pocket. The duration of Unit related parties has never been equalled.
Senior - Senior was around from day one but only emerged as a party
animal in the later stages of the MeatBeat often inspired by those around
him to sustain the impossible pressures of the MeatBeat parties.
The Rage Cage Danz Page - Danz was always an active member of all
groups within the BN Crew and was most likely the most talented musician
within the wider group. He was always known for is session organisation
skills and his a ability to knock it up a notch.
Firestorm Collins - Not much was known about Firestorm Collins
as he proved to be elusive even to fellow MeatBeat members.
Groover The Hoover - Due to scheduling conflicts between the MeatBeat
and real life G the H was rarely seen at MeatBeat events however did turn
up in a cameo context most christmasses and on several of the CZW events..
